The Sea is Blue

We were approached by our good friend Vincent Peone—whom we’d previously collaborated with on The Story of Sushi and Coppers—to create sets and props for his original short film, The Sea is Blue. With a script and storyboards in hand, we worked closely with Vincent to develop a detailed prop list.
As the design and scale of the main characters, Wolfie and Bean, came into focus, we determined the appropriate scale for the boat and supporting props. Stylistically, the goal was to present everything with realism, building a world that felt believable and grounded for the characters.
Coming from a fine art background, we often feel fortunate to approach model-making without being tethered to industry norms. Our techniques and inspirations come from a wide range of sources, which we believe brings a unique edge to our work.
Our role naturally expanded from building sets and props to designing and fabricating the underwater puppets—a fascinating and rewarding challenge that introduced us to an entirely new skill set.
