Greenpeace

The sets we created for Greenpeace were a new and exciting challenge. We were contacted by directors Josh Ruben and Vincent Peone, who needed four distinct miniature environments to integrate with a live actor via green screen—an approach we had long been curious to explore. The project came to us through a multi-tiered collaboration: Big Block Live (the production company), VIA (the advertising agency), and ultimately the client, Greenpeace.

After an initial creative call, the agency shared reference images, and Kathleen translated those discussions into concept sketches. From there, we began production on four miniature landscapes: an alpine mountain farm, a desert, a lush New Zealand-style jungle, and a swampy bayou. Each set included a few required elements, but we were given creative freedom in their design.

We had one month to complete the builds. Each model was constructed with modularity in mind—easy to disassemble, transport, and reassemble in the shooting studio. While the scale varied, all sets included a clear foreground space for the actor and were designed with unique color palettes and complementary backgrounds. The backdrops were based on our own photographs, enlarged into custom digital prints.
